Dahlia is an original character created for Legendary Guardian and has no basis in cannon from Square Soft in Final Fantasy X. She plays a central role in Auron's life and is a catalyst for many of his decisions, including accompanying Braska on the Journey as his Guardian. Auron meets Dahlia through his good friend, Sam. Auron grew up with Sam at the temple and he is a fellow warrior monk. Sam is from Luca and his family and that of Dahlia's have been friends for generations. The young man is smitten with Dahlia and confides in Auron that he wants to be posted in Luca so he can officially court the woman. On meeting Dahlia, Auron is struck by her beauty and infatuated. The situation causes him quite a bit of anxiety. He loves Sam like a brother and would never want to do anything to hurt his friend, yet he can't get Dahlia out of his mind. When Auron is posted to Luca, and Sam to Djose, the situation becomes compounded. Sam asks Auron to look after Dahlia and the warrior complies. In the end, it only leads to a love triangle that Auron must find a way to resolve. Dahlia and her family are considered to be of a cultural background similar to that of the French. When writing her, I specifically had in mind the island of Martinique. She is dark skinned, with gold eyes, long chestnut hair, and a bright white smile. She tends to wear white dresses with revealing cutwork to display the contrast of her skin. She is beautiful and knows it. She is also somewhat hot tempered and will get her dander up when she feels cornered or manipulated. Her family is in the weapons business - her father owning a large mercantile in Luca and her uncle being an accomplished sword maker who trained with Auron's grandfather in Bevelle for a time. Dahlia helps out in the store doing sales. Auron develops a friendship of sorts with the uncle, and often comes by the shop to assist the man by testing out new weapons designs. The family uses the traditional kissing cheeks and hugging for greetings of friends and family, makes red wine, and loves to picnic at sunsets on the Mi’ihen Road. A passionate and outgoing group - it's no wonder Auron found them all intriguing. |
