Master Qui is an original character created for Braska's Journey and has no basis in cannon from Square Soft in Final Fantasy X. He also appears in Bonds of Love.

As a priest and mentor at the Djose Temple, Qui taught Braska from an early age. When Braska's parents left to Journey, Qui took over as guardian and guided the boy through his teens. The pair have a loving relationship in spite of the huge age difference. Braska thinks of Qui as a grandfather.

Qui, in addition to being Braska's mentor, is also an herbalist and alchemist. He teaches herb lore to young students at Djose Temple and is widely considered to be a master at his art. Qui's brand of healing is patterned after traditional Chinese medicine and the temple leans toward Taoist philosophies and practices. As a result, Qui teaches accupuncture, herbs, tinctures, teas, cupping, and other such specialties. He imparted this knowledge to Braska.

Though Qui's age is never mentioned in the story, I see him as being very old. Braska, when he returns to Djose, is actually surprised to find him still alive. I see him as being about five feet tall with short white hair, a bit of a beard on his chin, the traditional dark almond eyes of the orient, and a bright smile. He is given to jests, pranks, and wise but cryptic statements. I imagine him to be in his 90s.
