Ran is an original character created for Legendary Guardian and has no basis in cannon from Square Soft in Final Fantasy X. He appears, or is mentioned, in several chapters of LG as well as Braska's Journey and Bonds of Love and has a major impact on Auron's life. As abbot of the shine at Mt. Gagazet, Ran is the "gatekeeper" for Auron's attempt to gain the Overdrive. Emotionally drained, physically weak, and questioning his direction in life when he arrives at the shrine, Auron wonders if he is worthy to seek the gift of his ancestors - much less continue on his path as a warrior monk. Ran is aware of his history and concentrates much of his energy on assisting the young man's spiritual healing. While Auron is sometimes frustrated with his "sensei," he knows that Ran is only doing his best to help. In the end, thanks to Ran's guidance, Auron decides to stay on his chosen path and faces the shugyo – a test of the mountain. Oman is an aesthetic – a priest who has devoted his life to contemplation and the pursuit of enlightenment. Though he is a skilled fighter with a staff, and more than capable of defending himself, he prefers to spend his time in prayer and sharing what he has learned with others. He is a happy, empathetic, and giving man who finds joy in every aspect of living. Living far away from the temples, he remains aloof from political infighting and governmental matters. I based him, partially, on His Holiness the 14th the Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. |
